I do love ethereal electronica: it kind of skirts the area between downtempo and electronic by creating a hazy blend of the two. Much like how this post is a hazy blend of coherent, grammatically correct english and the wild ramblings of an alcoholic. Fortunately, this tune isn’t as rubbish as that combination.

There are songs that don’t ask to be listened to as such, but instead take you somewhere. A warm, comfortable and safe place within yourself, person with the person you love – a universal theme, but awfully intimate at the same time. It is a nice place to be! It reminds me of DAVIDS Dead Walkie, which gives off a similar kind of aura.

Yeah yeah, we’ve posted about the Avalanches before. But that was with our old posting style! Besides, you’re not the boss of me! Get off my back!

Thankfully, the Avalanches have not lost any of their brilliance since releasing their one and (currently) only album back in 2001. Sheesh, has it seriously been 13 years since this song came out? Good golly, they better have one hell of a follow-up album on the way. Anyhoo, since it would be remiss of me to simply post about a song/band that we’ve kind of covered before, I’ve dropped in a rather fantastic cover of the song by the Australian hip-hop artist, REMI. It is not a particularly easy song to cover, but this version is completely amazing, thanks to a willingness to divert from the source material at appropriate times.

Who likes electronic funk? That’s right, everyone! Allow me to introduce David Holmes, an Irish musician and composer, who is probably most famous for the work he did on the Ocean’s trilogy. Now, if you liked the music in those films (very slick, very funky, and very damn cool), then you’ll most assuredly like this song as it pretty much sounds like a missing composition from the soundtrack. It’s time to strut, people!

Yes, I watched Her, like the hipster that I am. It really is quite the lovely film though! It has a quiet, contemplative air about it, which is occasionally graced with moments of passion. Much like this song, which featured in its soundtrack. Interestingly enough, it’s a song that sounds just as delightful in reverse as it does being played in the usual manner: chilled, thoughtful and rather pretty.

Egad, peeps. I’ve been waiting for this song to be released ever since I heard it used in the trailer for Transistor back in May last year. But the waiting has paid off, because both the game and its soundtrack have been released! Rejoice!

Darren and Ashley have featured on either/or before for their work on the Bastion soundtrack. This new track follows a similar thread to their previous efforts, only with far less country and far more drums and bass. Have at it, fellow readers!

Awwwww yeah, it’s time to get all up and funky! I am quite the fan of the Ocean’s films, all of which feature insanely brilliant soundtracks. When you’ve got a fun, smart series of heist films, you need a suitably funky soundtrack to go with it. Heck, I’d become a master thief just so I could have these soundtracks playing in my ear when I carry out jobs. Jail time is but a detail to me!

Zero 7 are but a breath away from releasing a new album if their recent Facebook murmurings are any indication. They’ve dropped this single on an unsuspecting world, and while I do bemoan the change in direction from their downtempo days, this is certainly a much more listenable and enjoyable tune than the majority of their last album. Very nightclub-y, but not overly blaring and rubbish. I can only imagine that the rest of the album will follow in this direction, so I guess it can’t be too bad.

This track reminds me very strongly of Lupe Fiasco’s Daydreamin’ only instead of rap, it’s saturated in the smoothest of smooth soul. Smothered in it, ensconced in it, positively dripping in it. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to move in a most moody and suave manner, so have at it!

Electro-swing is the shit, guys. I mean, it has a pretty sweet name for a start, but the music itself is patently brilliant. Mixes the best of the new and the old, y’see. Here is some utterly delightful music that I discovered through an equally delightful video of Calvin and Hobbes dancing. My heart! It can’t handle all this “d’awwwwwwww”!

I am quite the fan of Mirror’s Edge, so I naturally lost my shit when EA announced the sequel at this year’s E3. EA’s going for a similar sound with regards to the sequel’s headline song as well (the predecessor I’ll post about soon): a kind of ambient-y, beat driven blend of piano and electronica. Thankfully, this remix is far better than the original, as it does away with the horrible vocals and the general campy feel.
