Surely everyone knows the Smiths, right? I guess I shouldn’t assume: there are people in the world who don’t know who the Beatles are, so there’s clearly no hope for anyone. If you don’t know the group, then you’d probably know the song, as a cover version (by Love Spit Love) was famously used in that show (and a movie) about sexy witches. While the cover is not bad (I like the guitar and that sort of wailing sound), it lacks the luscious sexiness that the original has. It’s dark without being comically gothic, and the reverb effect on the guitar is simply heavenly.
