Dave Grohl took the stage at this year’s SXSW to deliver the keynote speech for the music section of the show. Conference. Gathering. Whatever it is, I’m not too well informed about what it is exactly. I admire the heck out of the guy, and I am quite the fan of the Foo Fighters, but their music hasn’t really featured on here because who doesn’t know about the Foo Fighters, right?

Anyway, Grohl’s speech was wonderful: surprisingly poignant, he emphasised that doing your own thing can be the most rewarding way to work as a musician, and that greatness can come out of anything. In essence, it’s what we originally started either/or for: to highlight music that we loved, no matter where it came from (we also started it because we really hated Pitchfork and the way they ‘review’ music, something that Grohl specifically mentions in his speech). As such, today we shall honour Dave by posting about this track from their self-titled debut album. I say ‘their’, but in reality Grohl recorded the whole thing by himself, giving it a rawness that the band doesn’t quite have any more.
